Artisan Check In

The making of Mosaic

Today's artisan check in is with the artisans behind our beautiful Mosaic dishes that come in an amazing variety of colours and styles.

The shop owner is Gusti, who lives on a well known island in Indonesia. To help him with sales in the shop is Komang, who handles most of the orders and client communication, while most of the production is done by Putu. Gusti is self-taught but usually he ask Putu to do the heavy lifting with the work.

Due to Covid the orders have dried up and have made it a very challenging year for many of the artisans. Most of the material and recycled glass comes from an island east of Gusti. He says that usually the best part of living where he does is that there are many tourist that come to visit the shop where he also sells his products. It is close to the main Market which makes it an easy find for visitors.

The thing he hopes for right now is for the orders to continue coming in from his clients to help him and his staff stay busy and keep working while most of the country is still on lockdown and the tourism industry is only slowly figuring out how to get back on it’s feet.

We love their range of products and visiting their shop which also brings a smile to our faces with the colours and vibrancy and we hope that this vibrancy will soon be able to be shared with visitors and tourist again soon!

For now you can find their products at the Bazaar in the fall, you may already have one of these stunning pieces in your home!
