Artisan CheckIn

Yuni's Art Shop

The making of Mosaic

Today, artisan check in is with Yuni 's Art Shop, the artisans behind our beautiful Mosaic dishes that come in an amazing variety of colours and styles.   Located in Tegallalang, Andong Region in Bali.

The Shop owner is Gusti Agung, who lives in Ubud, Bali. To help him with sales in the shop is Komang Adi who handles most of the orders andclient communication while most of the production is done by Putu Wawan. Gusti is self-taught but usually he ask Putu to do the heavy lifting with the work.

Due to Covid the orders have dried up and have made it a very challenging year for many of the artisans. Most of the material and recycled glass comes from Lombok Island which is located east of Bali. Gusti says that usually the best part of living where he does is that there are many tourist that come to Ubud and visit the shop where he also sells his products. It is close to the main Ubud Market which makes it an easy find for visitors.

The thing he hopes for right now is for the orders to continue coming in from his clients to help him and his staff stay busy and keep working while most of the country is still on lockdown and the tourism industry is only slowly figuring out how to get back on it’s feet.

We love their range of products and visiting their shop which also brings a smile to our faces with the colours and vibrancy and we hope that this vibrancy will soon be able to be shared with visitors and tourist again soon!

For now you can find their products at the Bazaar in the fall, you may already have one of these stunning pieces in your home!

There’s a lot of experimenting that happens in their shop! They’re always trying out new colours and fragrances to see which ones do the best. All of the raw materials are sourced locally and micro-batches are produced at their production site just outside of Bangkok.

“it's the birthplace of people to start businesses. It's easy to start. It's an area with a variety of people and a lot of products. I want you to try and get to know Chatuchak Market. The work and ideas from people in the market are diverse. They have come to support people who have come to start anew.”

“The inspiration for designing a piece is often derived from imitation of nature. Things around in nature. Symbols representing Thai culture, but there are some that are designed according to the needs of customers as well.”
