From Tree to Treasure: Mango Wood
What Is Mango Wood?
Mango wood comes from (you guessed it!) the mango tree (Mangifera indica), a tropical tree best known for producing the sweet mango fruit enjoyed around the world. Native to South Asia and now grown throughout many tropical regions, mango trees can produce fruit for forty or more years before becoming less productive.
Rather than allowing older trees to go unused, the wood can be repurposed into beautiful handcrafted products. This gives the tree a second life, transforming it from an orchard staple into something that can be enjoyed in homes for years to come.

Mango Wood in Thailand
Most of our mango wood products are handcrafted by skilled artisans in Thailand, where mango trees thrive in the warm tropical climate. Using techniques passed down through generations, artisans carefully shape, sand, carve, and finish each piece by hand.
The natural grain of mango wood means that every item has its own personality. You may notice variations in colour, pattern, knots, or texture. These aren't imperfections, but the beautiful characteristics of genuine wood.
Some of our mango wood products also feature vibrant food-safe dip-dyed finishes, adding bold colour while preserving the beauty of the natural wood grain. These colourful finishes make every piece both functional and eye-catching.
Why We Love Mango Wood
Mango wood is popular among customers and artisans alike because it offers the perfect balance of beauty and practicality.
Durable, Yet Lightweight
Traditional Kiln Finish
If you've recently purchased one of our mango wood products, you may notice a subtle smoky aroma from it. This scent comes from the traditional kiln-drying process used during production. Kiln drying helps prepare the wood for carving and finishing while reducing excess moisture. The scent is completely natural and will gradually fade with use and time.
More Than Just Serving Bowls
While mango wood is well known for kitchenware, it's equally beautiful throughout the home. At One World Bazaar, you'll find mango wood crafted into decorative vases, keepsake and storage boxes, jewellery trays, candle holders, and home decor accents. It's warm appearance makes it easy to incorporate into both modern and traditional spaces.

Caring For Your Mango Wood Products
Mango wood is naturally durable, but proper care will help keep your pieces looking beautiful for years.
Everyday Cleaning
Because wood is naturally porous, prolonged exposure to moisture can cause it to swell, warp, or crack over time. For both decorative and serving pieces:
- Wipe clean with a soft damp cloth
- Wash food-safe items by hand using warm water and mild dish soap
- Dry thoroughly after cleaning.
- Never place mango wood in the dishwasher.
- Avoid soaking wood in water.
🌿 One World Bazaar Tip: Our mango wood bowls are one of our favourite ways to serve salads. For the best long-term care, we recommend tossing the greens and toppings in the bowl, then serving the dressing on the side. If you're adding juicy ingredients like tomatoes or cucumbers, wait until just before serving. A little extra care goes a long way in preserving your beautiful piece!
Refreshing the Finish
Over time, wood may naturally become drier. If needed, serving pieces can occasionally be treated with a small amount of food-safe mineral oil to help maintain their appearance. Decorative items can be cared for with an appropriate wood conditioner, following the manufacturer's directions.
